ConfigBot for Service Now – Impact Analysis Security: Identifying Orphaned Groups

In some instances, groups may exist without members or assigned roles. Using Impact Analysis Security in ConfigBot, administrators can easily identify such orphaned groups to streamline access management, remove unused groups, and enhance overall compliance. 


Follow the steps below to generate the analysis and view orphaned groups in your instance: 


  1. Log in to ConfigBot 


Enter your username and password, then click Submit to access the portal. 

 


  1. Access the Impact Analysis Security Module 


From the Home Screen, click on the Impact Analysis Security module tile. 



 

  1. Select a Workspace 


Choose the workspace that best fits your analysis requirements. 


 


  1. Create a New Iteration 


Click the Add Iteration button.  



  • a. Enter the Iteration Number 
  • b. Select the Workspace 
  • c. Enter host address 
  • d. Choose the Instance Type 
  • e. Enter your Company ID and Username 
  • f. Provide a short, relevant Description 
  • g. Click Submit to create the iteration. 


 


 

  1. Generate Workbook 


Click the Hamburger Menu and select Generate Workbook


 


A pop-up window will appear — enter your ServiceNow instance password, add any execution notes, and select the checkbox for Orphaned Groups

Then click Confirm and Start


 


  1. Monitor Progress 


Click the Information (ℹ️) icon to track the iteration’s progress. 



 

  1. Review Results: 


  • Once the status shows Complete, open the generated workbook. 
  • Navigate to the Orphaned Groups sheet to view the list of groups without members or assigned roles. 

 


By using the Impact Analysis Security feature in ConfigBot, administrators can quickly identify and manage orphaned groups in their instance. This proactive cleanup improves data accuracy, enhances security compliance, and ensures that access permissions remain tightly controlled across the platform.
