ConfigBot for ServiceNow - Navigation Menu Validation

Sometimes, after an instance upgrade or version change, it becomes difficult to verify which users have access to specific applications or modules. Manually checking every role, application, and menu can be time-consuming. Using configbot we can easily see the ServiceNow menu applications and modules, also the workspace menu applications and modules.

With ConfigBot’s Navigation Menu Validation, you can easily analyze this data within a single sheet by just running one reverse. 

The following article explains how to quickly validate navigation menus and user access across applications using the Navigation Menu Validation module.   

Step 1: Log in to ConfigBot 

• Enter your username and password, then click Submit to access the portal. 

Step 2: Access the Dependency + Risk Analysis Module 

• From the Home Screen, click on the Navigation Menu Validation module tile 

Step 3: Select a Workspace 

• Choose the workspace that best fits your needs. 

Step 4: Create a New Iteration 

• Click the Add Iteration button 

• Enter the Iteration Number 
• Select the Workspace 
• Enter Host Address 
• Choose the Instance Type 
• Enter your Company ID and Username 
• Add a short Description  
• Then click Submit to create the iteration. 

Step 5: Prepare Workbook for config sheet 

Click the Hamburger Menu and select Generate Workbook. 

In the pop-up window: 

• Enter your ServiceNow instance password 
• Add any execution notes 
• Select the checkbox for Workbook Intellisence 

Then click Confirm and Start to prepare sheet. 

Step 6: Monitor Progress 

• Click the Information (ℹ️) icon to track your iteration’s progress. 

Step 7: Enter Config Data* * 

Once the status shows Complete, open the generated workbook. 

Within the workbook: 

• Go to the Config worksheet tab. 
• In the User ID column type the desired users id such as abel.tuter, beth.anglin 
• In the Fetch Workspace List column select yes from the dropdown 
• In the Workspaces Column select any workspace such as HR Agent Workspace  

Step 8: Generate Workbook 

• Click the Hamburger Menu and select Rerequest Process. 
• Again, Click the Hamburger Menu and **select **Generate Workbook. 

In the pop-up window: 

• Enter your ServiceNow instance password 
• Add any execution notes 
• Select the checkbox for Select All 
• Then click Confirm and Start 

Step 9: Monitor Progress 

• Click the Information (ℹ️) icon to track your iteration’s progress. 

Step 10: Review Results 

• Once the status shows Complete, open the generated workbook. 

• Navigate towards the Navigation Menu sheet.  

Here, you can see all the detailed view of Parent Menu Item and Menu Item, and workspace menu items related to the users we specified in config. We can also see their favorites in “Favorite Item” column with value “Yes” 

So instead of manually digging through each menu and application/module, Navigation Menu Validation gives you a direct, organized map of user-to-application relationships, saving you valuable time and ensuring your instance remains secure and compliant.
